From the classroom to riding bikes in the woods— that’s where our journey began.
We’re two school friends with a shared passion for building things right. For nearly 20 years, we’ve honed our skills across the trade industry, working side by side on a wide range of projects throughout Europe and the United States. With strong foundations in carpentry, floor laying, and double glazing, we’ve seen it all — and built most of it too.
After years of experience, countless hours on-site, and a growing toolbox of knowledge, we decided it was time to bring it all home. That’s how First Glass Windows & Developments was born — a name that reflects both the clarity and quality we bring to every job.
Now, we’re proud to offer our expertise to our local community, providing top-notch craftsmanship, honest advice, and a service built on trust, reliability, and friendship. We don’t just build homes and install windows — we build lasting relationships.

Energy-efficient windows are designed to reduce energy consumption by minimizing heat transfer between the interior and exterior of your home, helping to keep your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
Signs that you may need new windows include drafts, condensation between the panes, difficulty opening and closing the windows, or an increase in your energy bills. Contact us for a free consultation to determine if new windows are right for your home.
Single-pane windows have one layer of glass, while double-pane windows have two layers of glass with a spacer in between. Double-pane windows offer better insulation and energy efficiency compared to single-pane windows.
Yes! Double glazing can significantly reduce outside noise, which is especially helpful if you live near a busy road, railway, or in a noisy neighborhood.
In many cases, yes—but you may need special permission. We’re happy to guide you through the process and offer solutions like secondary glazing that often meet regulations without compromising appearance.
Definitely. Double glazing is seen as a smart home improvement that boosts energy efficiency, comfort, and security—all of which are attractive to potential buyers.
Very secure. Our modern double-glazed windows and doors come with advanced locking systems, toughened and Laminated glass options that not only help protect your home but can also reduce noise and lower heating bills.
There’s a wide variety! Choose from casement, sash, tilt-and-turn, bay windows, and many door styles—available in uPVC, aluminium, timber, and a range of colours and finishes to match your home’s look.
We do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum. Our team lays down protective coverings, tidies up after the job, and works efficiently to ensure a smooth experience from start to finish.
Triple glazing has an extra pane of glass and another insulating layer. It offers even better thermal and sound insulation, though it’s generally more expensive. We’ll help you decide if it’s the right choice for your home.
In the early 80s when double glazing went BOOM! it was sold as maintenance free. Wrong! Ok, so its a lot less maintence, no more painting, scraping ice off the inside or shoulder barging to open but please a little oil and a rub goes a long way. We recommend using graphite powder or silicone-based lubricant on all moving parts. Every 6 months, or sooner if local building works have kicked up a dust storm. Lightly brush the area with a clean brush and apply lubricant, work the lock or hinge back and forth then wipe off any residue.
Because foggy windows are only romantic in movies. While Double glazing can significantly reduce condensation, it dosen't always eliminate it entirely. Condensation can cause all sorts of issues. Wipe it away and keep those trickle vents open. Ventilation is key.

First things first bottoms up! start at the bottom. With a vacuum cleaner or we like to use a clean wide paint brush, clean out all the dust, debris, leafs and pet fluff from your thresholds and bottom rails especially on patio sliding doors these like to pick it all up and before you know it they're skidding not sliding. Brush and wipe out the bottom rails this is often where the water drainage is.
Cleaning - All Powdercoat, foil and textured finishes should be wiped with warm soapy water. NO solvents or abrasive cloths.
White uPVC we recommend the same. You can use solvents but these can scorch the profile and cause more harm than good. Once cleaned top up that oil and those locks, hinges and handles will keep you safe, secure and warmer for longer.
